Siding: Mountain design lends itself to the look of cedar. Fiber-Cement wood grain boards provide the right look without the maintenance issues associated with cedar. Factory primed, the fiber cement can be painted to any color. James Hardie and Certainteed both supply our boards. Our designs most often combine horizontal lap siding with vertical "board and batten". To add interest we often place Nichiha's fiber cement shake in the gables.
Trim boards: Miratec has been the staple product in all our homes for many years. It is a composite wood that comes in grain and smooth; we most often use the wood grain product. The trim sizes vary according to placement. We use 5/4 thick x 4 for windows; x 6 for frieze board under the soffit; x 8 for the fascia board (behind the gutters and on the gable rakes); x 10 for the band board at the bottom of the wall closest to the ground.
Stone: The final touch of exterior detailing is achieved by adding stone. Real stone is readily available in these mountains but we find that a "cultured" stone is very consistent in color and shape, more cost effective and reliable. Stoneworks has a great selection to choose from. Glance at their website and see the possibilities. Quite often we will carry the same stone to the interior fireplace surrounds.
